Was Tupac Shakur a Homophobe? Three Signs Makaveli Loved Gay People

Support the independent voice of Miami and help keep the future of New Times free.

At six feet, four inches and nearly 300 pounds, Suge Knight was once hip-hop’s most respected feared label executive.

The Death Row Records capo was often ruthless and his questionable business practices regularly involved physical violence. Rumors that he threatened to throw Vanilla Ice off a hotel balcony still swirl to this day, and questions of Knight’s alleged ties to the murder of Notorious B.I.G. remain unanswered.

But Knight’s dubious morals hit an all time low when the big man took an unprovoked cheap shot at former Death Row artist Tupac Shakur.

During an appearance on , Knight blasted Tupac for being an alleged homophobe. He also claimed that Dr. Dre is „bisexual.“

Knight says that Tupac told Dr. Dre, „I don’t want to be doing songs with a guy who’s pounding other guys in the butt,“ and walked out of a meeting.

Say what you will about Pac. But despite his shortcomings (Loyal to the Game, etc.), the rapper was anything but a homophobe.

In fact, TMZ reports that Shakur’s family is denying all of Knight’s „totally false“ claims, citing Tupac’s friendship with Gianni Versace.

Here are three more signs that prove Tupac was not a gay basher, homophobe, or bigot.

Suge Knight Outs Dr. Dre, Says Tupac Confronted Him About Being Gay

Even in death Tupac Shakur can’t escape headlines — especially at the hands of his ex-Death Row leader, Suge Knight. Just a few weeks ago Knight threatened to “beat the dog s— out” of rapper Rick Ross for working with Diddy, the man he believes is responsible for the untimely death of the West Coast emcee. “If you’re gonna be with the guy [Diddy] who killed Tupac, you can’t go turn around and do a record [called] ‘Tupac Back.’ Rick Ross is a grown a– n—-,” he said. “I’ll beat the dog s— out of Rick Ross for manipulating these people out here.”

And whether Knight truly believes that claim or is just trying to rustle up controversy, still remains to be seen. Now however, he’s fixated on a new target, Dr Dre. Dre, whose lucrative Monster headphones line has pushed him back into relevancy, is being called out as a closet homosexual by his old friend and Death Row head honcho.

“Ninety five percent [of rappers] is closet cases. I know the ones … on our labels who’s like that,” said Knight during an appearance on The Howard Stern Show. “I’m saying he’s gay because there is a guy named Bruce, he’s been sleeping with a for years,” he added.

According to the former label head, even Tupac knew about Dre’s sexuality and confronted him about it leading to a seedy back and forth conversation that Suge of course remembers word for word.

“Tupac said ‘I’m tired of this [meeting]. Dre you is a f—–,” said Knight. He then added that Dr Dre’s response was, “First of all I’m not a f—–… I’m not homosexual. If I wanna pound some butt, I can do a woman. I’m bisexual.”

Knight, who’s been desperate for relevancy by recalling situations of the 90s then ended the interview with a personal message to his ex Death Row comrade, “Dre you is a f—–.”

Hopefully Knight’s latest cry for attention helps him deter feelings of inadequacy. The ex-Death Row head label was ripped away from him after filing for bankruptcy, much like several of his personal items that have been sold on reality shows and at auction. -danielle canada

Suge Knight Outs Dr. Dre, Says Tupac Confronted Him About Being Gay

Is Dr Dre gay? Tupac thought so

Is Dr Dre gay? Apparently there has long been a rumor that the rapper and producer was gay. And now, handwritten liner notes from Tupac’s 1996 album, The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory are up for auction, and they’re fanning the flames of this particular fire.

Pac’s possessions are on the auction block (his friend’s and family’s continued attempts to capitalize from his legacy, most likely) and the liner notes have some obvious jabs at other rappers in his orbit back in the day. He mentions pretty much everyone, including Faith Evans, Lil Kim, Jimmy Henchman, Donnie Simpson and, of course, Dr Dre.

As Genius reports, the note appears to reference his 1994 shooting in the lobby of Quad Recording Studios in Manhattan — he calls out Biggie, Diddy and Jimmy Henchman, among others, for “remain[ing] silent while quietly conspiring my downfall.” He also calls out Mobb Deep and De La Soul for their paltry record sales in comparison to him, calls Wendy Williams a “fat bitch” and dredges up other beef against basically everyone else in rap at the time. Oh, and he refers to Dr Dre as a “closet homo.”

That’s not all — on the same album in “Toss It Up,” Tupac questioned Dr Dre’s sexuality again. Per Genius —

Blown and forgotten, rotten for plotting Child’s Play

The handwritten liner notes, which come from a close family friend of Tupac’s, are being auctioned through Gotta Have Rock & Roll. The angry rant filled with epithets and homophobic and sexist insults will go on auction on Wednesday, April 11. The starting bid is $30,000.

Is Dr Dre gay? Tupac thought so

This is rumored to be one of the last songs Tupac recorded, apparently recorded on September 6th 1996.

The original version contains a sample of Marvin Gaye’s Inner City Blues. The outro contains a cut throat diss towards Jay Z, as well as Mobb Deep, Biggie, and Puffy.

Pac did not say i like demons yall rewrote gods word now u want to put words in pac mouth God bless yall wimpy whitey!!!!!!!!!!

Empire’s Jussie Smollett: I will always stand for love

On stage, before singing, he fought back tears as he told fans: „I had to be here tonight, y’all. I can’t let [them] win.“

Police are searching for two men who punched him, poured a „chemical substance“ over him and put a rope around his neck in a suspected racist and homophobic attack.

„I have so many words on my heart,“ the 36-year-old said after hugging his family.

„The most important thing I have to say is thank you so much and that I’m okay. I’m not fully healed yet, but I’m going to.“

The concert had been planned for a long time before the incident. His family and others had urged him to cancel the show while he recovers and police investigate.

„I’m gonna stand strong with y’all. l will always stand for love. I will never stand for anything other than that,“ said the openly gay actor.

„Regardless of what anyone else says, I will only stand for love. And I hope that you all will stand with me. So now, let’s do it.“

Police are investigating whether he was the victim of a hate crime.

Jussie told police the two men – who attacked him in Chicago earlier this week – made reference to „MAGA“ (Make America Great Again).

The slogan was used by Donald Trump during the 2016 US presidential campaign.

While Jussie’s had a huge amount of support, others have questioned his version of what happened.

He told the crowd he wanted to clarify a few things.

„Just because there has been a lot of stuff said about me that’s absolutely not true,“ he said.

He glanced at the balcony: „I’m sure my lawyer’s sitting up there like. ‚No, Jussie, no.'“

„I was bruised but my ribs were not cracked; they were not broken,“ he said referring to some notes he’d brought on stage.

„I went to the doctor immediately. I was not hospitalised.

„Both my doctors in LA and Chicago cleared me to perform, but said to take care, obviously.

„And above all, I fought them back,“ he said to cheers.

No arrests have been made, and police have not found surveillance video of the attack, though they found footage of Jussie walking home with the rope around his neck.

Before leaving the stage the artist said: „We are proud. We are gay.“

Tupac Shakur’s family members believe Suge Knight is dead wrong — the rapper couldn’t have been a homophobe … because he was GREAT friends with Gianni Versace.

Suge has been on a media blitz recently … telling multiple radio stations 2pac ended his professional relationship with a famous hip hop star because Suge believed the rapper was a gay man.

But sources close to the Tupac estate tell TMZ … the Shakur family feels very strongly that Suge’s claims are „totally false“ … and point to his friendship with the famous designer Gianni Versace, who was an openly gay man.

In fact, Tupac reportedly participated in a Versace fashion show in Italy back in 1996 … and even rocked a Versace suit on the catwalk.
