Scruff is a universal social dating app made for gay, transgender, and bisexual men. Initially founded in 2010 by Johnny Skandros and Eric Silverberg was developed for Android and iOS devices.

The ‘Woof’ feature of the application allows the user to express his interest in the profile of another user. The user can upload their profile and photos for others to view and search for potential partners by searching using their location and shared interests.

The app has more than 15 million users worldwide with its downloads in over 180 countries on six continents. This free to download application has over ten languages, such as English, Spanish, German, Portuguese, Arabic, French, and Chinese.

Scruff said it had changed its profile picture rules after „repeated suspensions by app store distributors“ but declined to specify which stores.

The app was most recently suspended from Google Play in January, when it disappeared for three days.

Google told BBC News it did not comment on individual apps.

Several Scruff members responded to the policy change on social media, threatening to delete their accounts.

„Craigslist, Backpage, Tumblr, now even Scruff, a gay dating app you have to be of consenting age to use, is censoring how its users can post photos? This isn’t looking so good guys,“ said vlogger Amp Somers, who runs the sex education YouTube channel Watts The Safeword, which has 170,000 subscribers.

Scruff Gay Dating App Creators Defend Race-Based Filtering

Scruff Gay Dating App Creators Defend Race-Based Filtering

Race-based searching may be linked to discrimination, but one app’s creators say it helps their users find what they are looking for.

The creators of the gay dating app Scruff, aimed at the scruffier guys, defended their decision to allow users to sort potential mates by race and even express racial preferences in dating profiles in an interview with .

Eric Silverberg and Johnny Skandros created Scruff, which competes with the more well-known app Grindr, to appeal to hairier men and their fans, at the same time seeming to buck gay male beauty standards.

„You didn’t have to be a 22-year-old with a V-shaped torso to feel at home there. With its ‚Match‘ feature — bringing together those open to relationships — you could even find love.

„It welcomed others in, too: trans and non-binary users, too often left out. Most noticeably, Scruff introduced a range of features both to forge a community of HIV-positive men and to encourage members to glide across the viral divide. Entwining with the advent of PrEP — the drug Truvada, which prevents HIV — Scruff made old divisions between HIV-positive and HIV-negative men more porous. Today 8 million use the app.“

However, like the more popular app Grindr, Scruff allows users to look past entire populations of people based on race alone. A study conducted by OkCupid, a mainstream dating app that does not allow race-based filtering found in 2009 that its white male users got more replies to messages than any other group.

While people are entitled to like whom they like, creating a climate where race-based sexual preference is acceptable can be both demoralizing and fetishistic.

The website Sexual Racism Sux! explains why race-based ads and filtering can be harmful:

„Imagine how it feels to read ad after ad that excludes you based solely on your race. Imagine for a moment, that you were in a minority in the country you were born in and kept reading apparently endless profiles saying you weren’t desirable. It just might ruin your day, mightn’t it? Do you really want to help make other men feel bad about themselves?“

The creators of the site also argue that if dating bias exists, it should be challenged and confronted: „We believe these things because we think that narrow-mindedness, hurtful speech and exclusionism have no place in the gay community.“

While Scruff creator Silverberg admitted to BuzzFeed that those were valid critiques, he stood by the app’s settings.

“’Ultimately we wanted to build an app and a service that enables guys to find the kind of guys they’re into and for some people that includes…‘ He stops himself and continues: ‚That can mean many things for different people. Sometimes they have ethnic preferences, sometimes they have height/weight preferences, sometimes people have body hair preferences.'“

„‚Right!‘ pipes up Skandros with the knowing chuckle of a man who has fallen victim to ruthless body hair discrimination.'“

It is true that fetishistic typecasting exists in the gay dating arena, with complex delineations of identity ranging from bear to otter and from twink to butch. However, people of all races can fit into each of those other categories, and unlike a bias against bearded men, racism is systemic.

Diego, a 32-year-old Latino man who met his boyfriend on Scruff, said he didn’t agree with all of its policies. „So I’m sure apps will claim they give people what they want, but the categories they provide reinforce stereotypes and shape user attitudes too,“ he told The Advocate.

„I guess a search engine, if it covers depth and breadth to enough general user satisfaction, does inform ways of categorizing, but here it is riding on much, much more powerful social forces,“ he said. „Searching, however, is different from putting it in your profile, which is public and therefore more aggressive — especially the way some guys write their ‚preferences‘ out.“

BuzzFeed asked Scruff founders if there was any point at which stating a „preference“ might cross the line into what the founders would consider racism?

“It all depends on context,” says Silverberg. “If someone is writing something on their profile with a hostile intention, regardless of the exact language, that will be investigated and may cause the profile to be suspended. If someone is communicating a preference from a place of honesty without a hostile intention then that would be OK by our guidelines.”

Scruff is hardly the first site to allow searching by race, and new niche dating services pop up every day, catering to individual preferences — such as  and  — and it’s kind of cute or even sort of funny until something like the site is introduced. „I’m not even looking,“ Diego said when I told him about the site.“The thing is, white people don’t get it.“

Gay dating apps: A comprehensive guide to Jack’d, Grindr, Hornet, Scruff and the rest

There was a time when gay dating was an IRL affair, based around your local gay bar or well known cruising spot. Now, finding a guy usually means grabbing a phone and browsing your options.

While a lot of people decry the decline of gay bar culture, there’s no denying that dating apps are the most popular method of meeting people in 2018. With that in mind, here’s a run down of the most popular gay dating apps for queer men.

The gay dating app SCRUFF hopes to shift focus from hookups to relationshipswith new feature

Log on to one of the many gay dating apps available for a smartphone and you’ll see an ocean of torsos, biceps, and sometimes other body parts (i.e. maybe a penis). It’s no surprise that these apps have developed a reputation for being pretty much just for sex. This Valentine’s Day, one of these apps is looking to change that.

SCRUFF, one of the most popular gay dating apps on the market is launching a new feature called “SCRUFF Match” which will match men who are looking for relationships with other like minded men on the app.

“We did a survey of our members late last year and found that two thirds of them used SCRUFF for dates or for chat” SCRUFF CEO and Co-founder Eric Silverberg, said over the phone. “We’ve been hearing from our members who are really looking for dates or relationships that they wanted an easier way to do it.”

SCRUFF Match is the app’s solution for these users. With the new feature, users will be able to go through a series of cards featuring men who both have a clear face pic and have specifically stated they are looking for dates or a relationship.

“The most important feature, frankly of any service in the dating world is the guys that are there. Whether they’re geo location based apps, they’re websites, or they’re personal adds, ultimately the [main] feature is the guys.” Silverberg explained. “What makes SCRUFF Match in particular different is we are essentially creating a space for gay guys who are specifically interested in dates and relationships and we’re saying this is a space for you.”

This space that Silverberg and SCRUFF’s team are creating is certainly unique among gay dating apps. For although apps and services do provide the option of filtering out men who are looking for a relationship, they hardly feel as specific as what SCRUFF intends SCRUFF Match to be.

And for those men who may feel disillusioned by gay dating apps? Silverberg is confident that SCRUFF Match is different. “I think SCRUFF Match, by creating a space for guys specifically who are looking for dates or relationships is going to provide a different enough experience that hopefully will be able to reach a lot of those people who maybe weren’t as attracted to or didn’t find the kind of community they were looking for on apps as they have existed to this day.”

Scruff gay dating app review

Scruff is one of the most popular gay chat and dating app on the market. Research shows that there are more gay men than lesbian women who are looking for love online. Small wonder there are more gay members on any dating sites and mobile apps!

“I have been using Scruff since 2010. During the previous eight years, I’ve met all my partners via this app. This gay dating app has improved a lot over the years because now its interface looks very trendy and chic. I highly recommend this gay app to all my gay and bisexual friends who want to find something cool and someone hot.” (Christopher, Miami)

“Initially, I joined Grindr in 2009, but since 2011, I’ve discovered Scruff which has better technology that meets my needs. This is the smartest gay dating app on the planet because its AI learns what I am looking for! That’s why finding dates is extremely easy and efficient on Scruff.” (Jack, L. A.)

“All my private coaching clients who are gay and bisexual have tried Scruff because it’s their favourite gay dating app on the market – its artificial intelligence is so smart. The more you use Scruff, the smarter this app gets. So it only recommends guys that you actually like to you each day.” (Jade Seashell)

“Amongst our gay clientele, most of them prefer Scruff these days due to its advanced and cutting-edge technology. Hence, we recommend Scruff to anyone who wants to try gay dating online.” (Curt Coch)

Scruff Pro is its membership subscription. It is available for purchase at US$14.99 each month (or less, depending on renewal frequency and region). This subscription is valid for 30 days, 90 days, 180 days, or one year, depending on the membership type chosen. SCRUFF Pro: $14.99 SCRUFF Pro: $12.99 SCRUFF Pro: $8.99 Messaging Pro: $4.99 Browsing Pro: $3.99

Scruff is a decent gay dating and social app which offers good value for its members. It supports many different languages and can be downloaded in every country in the world. A member’s subscription automatically renews unless the member turns it off manually. Therefore, a wise gay dater always has a budget and watches his money.

This is my main dating site, I have already refused others. At SCRUFF there is a paid subscription, and this is the best protection against inadequate. Men who write to me are interested in finding a life partner, dating lovers for one night sit on other sites that are more accessible. Therefore, communication does not bring negativity, but only pleasure. It’s so easy to find an interesting partner online and go to date, and if it doesn’t work out, then the parting took place without aggression, like in decent people. I’ve made correspondence with several men; they are all interesting personalities with whom it is pleasant to communicate. I recommend this decent dating site with great users.

I don’t like the fact that the app is positioning itself as free, but all the normal features are available only to premium accounts. You have to pay $14.99 per month. The money is small, and the fee scares different scammers, bots and other unpleasant personalities, but it would be better to warn about the need for a paid subscription in advance. Despite the paid services, I like this app. There are a lot of questionnaires online, men write constantly, it’s possible to communicate with many of them simultaneously, arrange meetings, etc. I haven’t yet found a soul mate, but I spend a good time online.

I completely agree with you. Only registration is free, for all other useful options, you have to pay. Moreover, I don’t like that you have to pay every month. And the fee doesn’t change whether you sit on the site around the clock or enter once a week. On the one hand, this is good, some kind of insurance against spammers rolls and maniacs. On the other hand, demanding money for any step resembles extortion. But this whole farce is compensated by the fact that it’s possible to meet a few really interesting people, with whom you can build serious relationships.

I have been using SCRUFF gay dating app about 2 months and I have met different people online and I have noticed some disadvantages. Firstly, they claim that this app is free, but in fact you need to buy subscription in order to use the app properly. There is no particular dissatisfaction with this, I expected this. Secondly, you can meet anyone here. I’ve chatted with bots, fakes, those who simply offered to pay me for sex and so on. But there are normal men too, but you need to communicate at least 2 weeks, and then you can go on a date in a crowded place.

Grindr, Scruff and Other App Hook Ups

In recent weeks and months, it seems like we have been hearing more and more incidents where something bad has happened to gay men as a result of hooking up online.

Not too long ago, I saw a a news item about a Philadelphia tourist who was physically and sexually assaulted at gunpoint and robbed. An elderly Michigan man was murdered by a trio of thugs as a result of a Grindr hookup gone terribly wrong.

I am personally aware of two cases where people have been the victims of violent crime (and in one case, extortion) as a result of trying to hook up.

Looking around the Internet, there seems to be very little information “out there” that offers guidance to gay men on basic, essential safety precautions for making a sexual connection. And so what follows is a list of 10 tips that I hope you will find useful in keeping you safe.

Before continuing, I know there will be some who will suggest that the best way to prevent a bad hook-up is to avoid hooking up at all.

My response to this is simple – people are still going to hook up! Better to offer some practical, realistic suggestions as opposed to the Nancy Reagan approach (just say no) advice.

At its core, we are talking about risk reduction here. And the tips being offered in what follows could very well apply to straight individuals. Crime is an equal opportunity destroyer folks.

Let’s move on to the 10 online hookup safety tips. Please keep in mind this list is by no means exhaustive. Also, remember these tips are not foolproof. Again, we are talking harm reduction here.

What you need to know

Is Scruff settling down? This notorious hookup app is now shifting so that it aims to help users to find lasting relationships style. Don’t worry, though: Scruff remains a great app to find hookups for a single night (or afternoon). Alongside the household name Grindr, Scruff is one of the two most famous and well-known apps on the gay dating scene. Scruff and Grindr have been head to head rivals for many years now, and so Scruff continues to develop its USP: a detailed search function that makes it easy to home in on just the right type of guy. This Scruff Gay Dating App Review aims to give a flavour of what using this app is like since its major 2015 update.

The stats

Scruff was launched back in 2010 by Johnny Skandros and Eric Silverberg. Stats from October 2016 suggest that it has now passed the 10 million user mark. The app is free to all, but those who wish to can also upgrade to a paid version with additional features. Traditionally, this app has been focused on hookups (and it was mainly directed at those in their 30s and 40s), but in 2015 the app was revamped to place more of a focus on finding guys to date in the longer term. Are the 20 somethings who started using Scruff in 2010 now reaching a time of life where they want to settle down? Who knows!

The fact remains that in 2017 Scruff is now an app that can be used to find both a random guy to sleep with and your next long term partner. This is a truly global app, having been translated into 14 languages (including Italian, Spanish, German and French). It is also available in no less than 180 countries worldwide and the past six months or so has started to take off in India (to a significant part, this is probably due to Scruff taking a visible part in several events in the country such as LGBT Flash Mobs in New Delhi). This international outlook is aided by the app’s travel features, one of which enables users to see the travel plans of other guys using the app so that they can arrange hookups abroad.

A further travel feature is devoted to suggesting good places to eat and drink in different cities around the world. This Scruff Gay Dating App Review should also mention the technical fact that this app is available for iOS, Android and Windows, so take your pick!

What it packs

I already described some of the travel focused features earlier in my Scruff Gay Dating App Review, but there are plenty more features to discover. No Scruff Gay Dating App Review would be complete without mentioning the app’s extensive and detailed search feature. If you are looking for a particular type of guy (e.g. twink/ bear/ no body hair/ interested in barebacking) you can find him with ease just by narrowing down your search. As of 2014, Scruff has been putting a concerted effort into informing users about each other’s practices regarding safer sex, and so on signing up to this app, you will be encouraged to give as much information as you are comfortable with.

As you might expect, though, when you first log on to Scruff you will find that it looks initially deceptively like its main rival, Grindr.

You are presented with a grid of guys’ photos (most of them, inevitably, are pics of faceless torsos), and guys who are closer to your current location will appear first on the screen. There is a Tinder-style photo swipe function on the app now, as well as photo sharing and instant messaging capabilities for you to get to know guys better.

Too shy to chat? Scruff also offers you the possibility to send a guy a ‘woof’ to show that you like him without entering into a lengthy discussion. It would be hard to capture all of the features of this app in a single Scruff Gay Dating App Review (as explained at the start of this Scruff Gay Dating App Review, one of the USPs of Scruff, as opposed to Grindr, is the level of detail that the developers have gone into), but hopefully this has given you a good overview of what it’s like.

The last word

If I had to sum up my Scruff Gay Dating App Review, I’d say that Scruff remains a great app. It’s always been an excellent option when you’re seeking a hookup, and the very specific search function means you can filter out all of the guys that you know you would never be compatible with. Don’t be put off by the slightly gauche word ‘community’ when you’re asked to choose which ‘community’ your ideal guy belongs to: ‘community’ just means which of the classic gay categories you’d put your man into (i.e. twink, bear and so on). I have both Scruff and Grindr on my phone and use both intermittently, and Scruff has always been a reliable way to find someone near me to hook up with as it’s so popular that there are always guys logged on and available.

Scruff Gay Dating App Review Rating

My Scruff Gay Dating App Review can be summed up in the following star rating: 5 stars.

This app has been around so long, and gained such popularity, quite simply because it does just what guys want. Whether you are just looking for a guy who is close to you for an easy hookup in a bar, or whether you have more specific requirements, you can always turn to Scruff. Would I also give Grindr 5 stars? Absolutely. These two apps are very much on a par with each new travel-focused features make Scruff great to use abroad, too, and I would say it’s enhanced my holidays ever since I started using it.

‚Explicit content‘

Scruff is a social network and dating app for gay, bisexual and trans men. Members can browse a grid of profiles and speak to people in their area, or explore other locations.

However, it has disappeared from Google Play several times in recent months.

In a blog post that referred to the app’s temporary disappearance from Google Play in January, the company said: „Had this removal been permanent, it would have been devastating to our company and our community.“

It had now enacted „wide-ranging changes to its profile photo content guidelines“ in order to „ensure continued and full compliance“, the blog post added.

The company also told BBC News it took content moderation seriously.

Google declined to tell BBC News why Scruff had been removed from the app store several times.

Part of the challenge facing Scruff and similar apps „is the fact that different app stores publish guidelines with varying degrees of specificity“, chief executive Eric Silverberg told BBC News.

Google does publish a policy for app developers regarding sexually explicit content but it is very short and subject to interpretation.

While images of sex toys, sex acts and sex with animals are expressly forbidden, the policy otherwise bans only „sexually suggestive poses“.

Prior to the change, Scruff’s policies already forbade:

Last week, when the updated policy was introduced, it also banned photos of „hugging and kissing“ but his has now been changed to „sexually suggestive embraces“ following criticism from its members.

Scruff said existing profile photos would be rechecked to ensure compliance with the new policy.

Rival policies

Rival dating app Grindr does not allow underwear photos but does allow swimwear „in context“, such as photos taken on the beach.

Tinder’s profile guidelines do not give specific examples but do state „no nudity, no sexually explicit content“.

Both Grindr and the LGBT social network Hornet told BBC News they had not been suspended from Google Play.

The fetish app Recon is not available on Google Play, although a tamer version of Recon, which filters more explicit profile images, is available on Apple’s App Store.

While Google declined to comment, it made clear that its moderators did not discriminate based on sexuality or gender identity.

Grindr

Grindr, you may have heard of it? Launched in 2009 as the first ‘geosocial’ dating app (i.e. you can see who’s nearby), Grindr has grown to dominate both the actual market and the entire concept of gay hookup culture.

The general consensus is that Grindr is only for hookups, but this isn’t necessarily true. As is the case anywhere a lot of people gather, there’s something on Grindr for everyone – from one night stands and fuckbuddies to long term relationships.

That being said, if you’re looking for a brief encounter, Grindr will do the job, as it’s more of a free-for-all than some other apps with little restriction on who you can talk to. All you need to do to get started is sign up, set your preferences and scroll through guys close by. If you’re using the free version, be willing to suppress your rage at the incessant ads.

As is also the case with large gatherings of people, there’s a lot of bigotry and generally unacceptable behaviour on Grindr. A lot of this stems from the fact that users have license to be incredibly specific about their wants and desires, which apparently for some people means being specifically terrible.

Awful behaviour aside, there are a lot of pros to Grindr. Mainly, it has the most users. You can also be as anonymous as you want or as open as you’d like with your gender, preferred pronouns and status. People are also pretty trigger happy with pics, if you’re into that sort of thing.

Since a change at the top in 2016, Grindr has been on a one-app mission to be the centre of gay universe, with big events, an online magazine and a gay emoji keyboard. Basically, it isn’t going away anytime soon.

Scruff

Scruff, as the name suggests, is the hairier, bearier alternative to Grindr. The age range of users skews a little older than its main rival, and they are more uniformly of the muscular persuasion.

Scruff has been on the scene almost as long as Grindr, so it’s also amassed a large user base. As with Grindr, the amount of users has diluted its USP, so it’s not exclusively ‘scruffy’ guys on there, just mainly, and still overwhelmingly masc.

If masculinity isn’t high on your list of priorities, I wouldn’t necessarily look here. Scruff is hookup oriented, but does have a ‘match’ function if you’re looking for dates.

Being slightly more niche appeal than Grindr, Scruff doesn’t have the same critical mass of users, nor the cultural clout. However, if you see the word Scruff and don’t immediately shout ‘Oh Scruff Pit Crew’ in your best Mama Ru voice, then why are we even doing this?

Having sponsored the Pit Crew in the sixth season of Rupaul’s Drag Race, Scruff secured its position in the psyches of gay men everywhere, and it’s worth checking it out for this alone.

Jack’d

As mentioned, when you get a lot of guys together, bigotry tends to rear its ugly head and send you unsolicited nudes. Jack’d presents itself as an alternative to the divisiveness of other gay dating apps, and there’s proportionally more POC on there.

It works in much the same way as Scruff or Grindr, but with some additional features like more photos and the ability to see who’s been looking at your profile. You should be able to find both hookups or relationships on Jack’d, but it is a little more NSA friendly.

Hornet

Hornet’s USP seems to be ‘we do Grindr better than Grindr’. While Grindr’s functionality is notoriously clunky, Hornet works much better, with less intrusive ads, interesting side features like in-app articles and more photos. In practice though, you use Hornet much the same way as Grindr.

Hornet is pitched more towards being a community platform than just a gay dating app, and you’ve got the option to follow people for updates or see events and stories.

Community aspects aside, you’re more likely to find a one night stand on here than a husband. Hornet has been slowly beating out other apps worldwide through its news and content delivery, especially in Brazil, but has yet to dislodge Grindr and its other rivals from the top spot in the UK or US.

Chappy

You’re probably most familiar with Chappy from it filling every available ad space on your social media.

Chappy’s ‘USP’ is that you can slide a scale at the top of the app to select ‘Mr Right’, ‘Mr Right Now’ (clever) or ‘Mr Who Knows’ to find guys who are looking for the same. You can then swipe, Tinder style, through the filtered buffet. You have to log in through Facebook, so there’s much less room for anonymity.

Chappy is the brainchild of Made In Chelsea’s Ollie Locke, who was looking for something different from the other gay dating apps on the market. In reality, Chappy feels more like a ‘rich person decides to be entrepreneur’ kind of project, especially as most apps give you the ability to state exactly what you’re looking for, albeit in the much less fun form of ‘words’ rather than a sliding scale.

Regardless, Chappy has the backing of Bumble founder Whitney Wolf, it works pretty well and there are plenty of guys on there to swipe through. Unsurprisingly, you’ll find most of them on the ‘Mr Who Knows’ point of the scale.

Tinder

And finally, Tinder. Whereas Tinder was once thought of as Grindr for straight people, the ability to set your preferences to find other gays has made Tinder an increasingly popular choice.

Gay Tinder is to straight Tinder what Gay Twitter is to regular Twitter, i.e. the same, but gayer! You log in, set your preferences, and then swipe your way through the oncoming onslaught of men.

Tinder’s default setting is straight (eye roll), so you have to change it to find your fellow gays. With the free version, you have a limited number of swipes per day and limited access to extra features like ‘Super Likes’ and ‘Boost’.

By its nature, Tinder is geared more towards dating than hookups, although that’s not to say you can’t find both. There’s lots of guys on the platform, so you’ve got good odds of finding someone.

Young gay hot men! Try Scruff!

Without a doubt Scruff delivers a daily feast of gay men. You can spend hours reading the profiles and viewing face photos of aspiring young gay men on your Smartphone in the privacy of your home or office. You are allowed to “woof” any man that you might fancy. This is purely your individual choice. You can even contact any of these individuals if their profile offers any interest to you. It is up to the individual you try to contact to message you back. It may be problematic as to whether you receive a message back because that is based on mutual interest of looks, hobbies, business interests and numerous other factors. These factors can be included under the very general term of “chemistry”. The basic plan is free. You are limited on the number of guys you can view. It is still very generous on the number of men you can view. For a nominal monthly fee you can upgrade to the “Pro” plan. With this plan you can view many more gay men along with their profiles as well as message any guy you might want. It is very addictive to browse the guys. It is very entertaining as well. I would highly recommend this app! If you are a gay man I guarantee you will enjoy yourself!

Share All sharing options for: Another dating app is launching a live trivia quiz show

Scruff, a gay dating app, is launching a new live quiz show, called Hosting, that’ll live inside the app. Shockingly, and truly I’m shocked, this isn’t the first dating app to try its hand at an attached quiz show. Quiz Date Live announced its premise — a live dating show where players compete for a date — last month. Scruff’s game differs in that it’s modeled after HQ Trivia. The questions are more random, and players won’t win a date. There will be a $500 prize for each game, and participants can browse who else is playing and either “woof” at them, which is like a Facebook Poke, or “favorite” them, which adds them to a list of people they might want to revisit.

Every show takes place at 9PM ET, at the same time as HQ Trivia, and is available in North America. There are three rounds with 10 questions each. Players have 10 seconds to answer each question. Scruff has committed to being an ad-free platform, so it says there won’t be ads during the quiz show. Instead, it generates revenue through its paid dating tier,

While creating a quiz show isn’t the most obvious product decision for a dating app, it does potentially make Scruff part of the cultural conversation, if it’s successful. Also, hosting it nightly develops a habit for daters who might not be checking the app daily. Scruff just has to make sure the game is still a place to meet dates.
