PATTAYA

This was the second consecutive year that we visited Thailand. This time we took 2 friends with us. We were the best men of their wedding and wanted them to know this paradise in the world.

Arriving in Bangkok, we already had a transfer (Tom Taxi Service) waiting for us at the airport and we went straight to Pattaya: if you do the same, get ready because after a long flight you still have about 2 hours more by car.

In Pattaya we wanted to stay in one of the 2 gay areas in the city. The zones are the Jomtien Complex or the Boyz Town. We stayed at the popular Zing Resort and Spa right in the Jomtien Complex. We recommend the hotel, large pool, nice staff, giant rooms and right next to all the action.

Pattaya is a colorful nonstop gay scene with great beaches. As it’s a very well-known area worldwide for its gay scene, it attracts thousands of tourists in search of a great party and beach. In Pattaya you can count on everything that a coastal area has: many bars, restaurants, luxury resorts, shops and an incredible crowd.

Dongtan Beach next to the Jomtien Complex is called the gay beach, but anywhere in the city you’ll find many gays. Despite being a beach area, you have much more to see culturally and historically, such as:

– Wat Phra Yai Temple or Big Buddha – Get ready to climb a big hill, to reach the Big Buddha which is the biggest in the area. It’s located between Pattaya city and Jomtien Complex. You can go on foot, despite a long walk we did. In front of the Big Buddha you have the Chinese Shrine Complex, since these are in the area you visit as well.

– Pattaya View Point – Is also opposite the Big Buddha.

– Pattaya Walking Street – Is right in Pattaya city and is where Boyz Town is. An area full of bars, shops and big clubs.

– Sanctuary of Truth – Although the entrance is a little high, it certainly deserves a visit. It’s a sanctuary all made of wood, giant, and is in constant remodeling. You can visit the workshops where the giants, well kept and elaborate wooden pieces and sculptures of the sanctuary are being restored.

– Nong Nooch Tropical Garden – This beautiful and giant botanical garden is a little away from the city. Most people who visit it go on a tour but we called a Grab (same as Uber) and easily got you have several types of garden and hundreds of sculptures. Everything from french gardens, cactus and succulent garden, butterfly hill and much more. On the way back to the city if you go without a tour, take one of the numerous vans and come sitting outside. Get ready for the road adventure until you reach the hotel. Even with rain and thunder we came sitting outside on top and the experience was fantastic.

– Coral Island or Koh Larn – This spectacular island with fantastic waters, is right in front of pattaya and you can easily go back and forth on the same day by boat. The trip takes about 30 minutes. To catch the ferry go to Pier South Pattaya and buy tickets on the you get to the island you have right next to the pier the Tawaen beach but if you like a beach with less people, get a van and go to Samae beach and we guarantee you’ll spend an excellent day there. It was where we ate the best seafood in Thailand, sitting in a small restaurant right on the beach with our feet in the sand, it was really good.

Gay Pattaya | The Essential LGBT Travel Guide!

After years of overdevelopment, a booming commercial sex trade and a loss of it’s soul – Pattaya has taken great strides to improve it’s image, restoring the beaches, making the city for friendly to bikers and pedestrians and cracking down on the sex industry (though it is still very much alive, just safer).

As a result, numerous luxury hotels have come in, boutique shops and bars have sprung up and a more relaxed gay scene is developing. Pattaya is once again aiming to reclaim its throne as one of the world’s gay tourism hotspots – though it now has some serious competition from MykonosTaipeiMedellin!

Gay nightlife in Pattaya is focussed in two main areas, in central Pattaya with the go-go lounges of BoyzTown and Sunee Plaza gay areas in the south with Jomtien Complex (similar to Phuket’s gay Paradise Complex) and Dongtan gay beach, which are more focused for gay travelers who only want to spend their money on drinks.

Pattaya is one of the few places on earth where the gay nightlife scene is as crazy as wild as the straight – and even if it’s not normally your thing you have to at least try visit one of the countless cabarets, clubs, bars, karaoke or go-go bars if only to see how accepting Thai culture in general is of the LGBT community.  However equally tempting is the plethora of roof-top bars and dining, world-class spas, infinity pools, and affordable luxury hotels – all of which nearby Bangkok also has, just without the beach which is why so many people jet into the capital and head straight here instead.

Love it or hate in Gay Pattaya is here to stay – and based on what we saw, we wouldn’t write it off just yet!

Pattaya may be a fun destination but its gay nightlife scene is be for everyone. These go-go bars in Sunee Plaza can offer an enjoyable time, but the experience can be surreal, as their emphasis is firmly placed on getting you to buy more than a drink.

Many of these well-established venues commonly use the word “boy” in their names to imply young adult male workers. The actual age of these “boys” are often questionable, as some do look under-aged. If you are in doubt, insist on seeing a photo ID.

Be aware that prostitution is illegal in Thailand (although it is also fair to say that this law is largely ignored – so long as the person involved is over the age of 18).

Male workers in Pattaya are known to be honest, trustworthy and deserve to be treated with respect. However, as in any other city in the world, be careful with your valuables, especially if you invite a stranger back to your room.

Jomtien Complex

Baan Suoy Resort, Pattaya South

Baan Suoy Resort is one of the most popular gay hotels in Pattaya’s Jomtien beach, and bills itself straight friendly instead! For a budget hotel, it sure does offer a whole lot of excellent facilities. The hub of the hotel is the stunning swimming pool, where you can meet cute and handsome fellow gays. The lobby bar and restaurant dish out excellent food and even better cocktails, which you can enjoy during evenings or even before retiring to bed. While there’s a compact and well-equipped gym, we think you’d like a Thai massage, which you can enjoy in your room. The knowledgeable staff is the best bit, who knows all there is to know about Pattaya’s gay scene. Finally, an affordable and convenient tuk-tuk service to Boyztown and Dongtan beach is great for exploring the sizzling gay scene.

The rooms at Baan Suoy feel like an oasis of serenity and tranquility in the heart of bustling Pattaya. They’re in the form of apartments and studios, with separate living areas and kitchenettes. Moreover, they all either enjoy poolside access or private balconies. If you want to splurge, then the Penthouse Apartment has direct and exclusive access to the sun-kissed roof terrace.

Rabbit Resort

The absolutely gorgeous Rabbit Resort is the best gay hotel on Dontang/Jomtien beach, Pattaya. In fact, it sits right in front of Dontang beach’s gay cruising area, and is the best beach stay next to sleeping on the sand itself! The stunningly gorgeous resort is a cluster of traditional Thai bungalows dotted among a tropical jungle. Basically, you can choose from two kinds of rooms, the Forest rooms, and the Villas. The former feel like luxury treehouses, complete with balconies, wide windows, and elegant Thai décor. The Villas are the ultimate in comfort and privacy and perfect if you’re traveling in a group. The zenith of accommodations here is the intimate forest bungalow or the striking poolside bungalow.

There’s so much to love about the resort that you won’t feel like getting out. The in-house restaurant that serves delectable Thai and Western cuisine sits right on Dongtan beach. So, there’s always an influx of gorgeous gay men from the beach. The standout is the two outdoor pools, which are fringed by the most comfy-looking daybeds and luscious greenery.

Guesthouse Lonops Gay Paradise

Guesthouse Lonops Gay Paradise is the best gay hotel in Pattaya that you can stay at, and it’s easy to see why. Firstly, the hotel is anything but run-of-the-mill and is a great intimate hideaway if you’re traveling with your partner. Secondly, it has the prettiest nudist pool around. And finally, it even has a free shuttle to the gay neighborhood of Boyztown. If that wasn’t enough, it’s gay-owned too. With the words ‘Gay Paradise’ right in its name, need we say more?

The guesthouse sits in a massive, gorgeous house in Pattaya, which is located a 20-minute drive from the main Pattaya town area. The highlight is the communal swimming pool, which is clothing optional. What’s more, there are a lot of fun activities on the offer here, which you can enjoy with your new friends that you make here. During evenings, you can bond with other gay travelers over a fun barbeque. Moreover, the in-house restaurant serves both European and Thai dishes for lunch and dinner, while breakfast is a continental affair. rounding up the facilities here are laundry service, free Wi-Fi, and a tour desk.

The best part about the accommodations here is that you have many choices, depending on your need. So, you have single rooms as well as deluxe double rooms, and going up to bungalows with garden views and pool access. Nevertheless, they’re all decked out beautifully and feature all standard mod-cons, along with spotless modern ensuite bathrooms.

Heavenly king beds aside, we’d recommend going for the rooms that have the sexy in-room bathtubs that promise romantic moments. For the ultimate stay, book the private villas with access to the pool. Plus, these even come with basic kitchens for whipping up quick meals.

Not that you’ll need to lift a finger here, thanks to the splendid beachfront restaurant and bar. It’s the perfect place to enjoy a sundowner with views of the sunset or even a romantic meal under the stars. But, the best feature of the resort is the outdoor pool with sea views. In fact, the pool itself is unique designed as a shallow stretch before transforming into a swimming pool, just like a hard beach. A plethora of excellent lounging options, right from chic Balinese beds to oversized over-water sofas make this a haven to unwind.

Baraquda Pattaya MGallery

Baraquda MGallery is one of the best stylish gay hotels in Pattaya’s town. Located a mere block from Pattaya Beach, the hotel is also a stone’s throw from the pulsating gay scene of Boyztown. if you want to dive headfirst into Pattaya’s gay nightlife, then there couldn’t be a better place to stay. Despite the dynamic location, the hotel manages to feel remote and intimate and has a boutique feel to it. The rooms are done up in neutral hues, with pops of blue that are a nod to the hotel’s coastal ambiance. The nautical theme is subtle yet playful, with headboards shaped like the back of a ship and porthole-shaped mirrors in the bathrooms. If you want to impress someone, then go for the Baraquda Suite which has a sensuously large freestanding tub for two.

Besides the upscale rooms, the rest of the resort is equally inviting. The utterly gorgeous Sea Restaurant serves authentic Southeast Asian fare and is an excellent place for a date. Even the cocktail bar is the perfect place to enjoy an evening aperitive before heading out to enjoy Pattaya’s gay nightlife. Besides an excellent breakfast, the sprawling, winding pool is a pleasantly tranquil place to relax. Above all, it’s the lovely pure-white spa where you can enjoy a couple’s session with your partner after a night of Pattaya partying.

The gay friendly Ambiance Pattaya Hotel sits thick in the middle of all the gay action of Boyztown in Pattaya. In fact, it sits right across from the city’s most famed gay club, Boyz Boyz Boyz. It’s the perfect base if all you’re looking for is a bed to crash in after a night of endless revelry of all sorts in Pattaya. The rooms at Ambiance are on the basic side, but they’re extremely comfortable and spacious as well. If you can splurge, then we’d highly suggest the Penthouse Suite. It even has a sun terrace where you can relax during the day. Besides mod-cons, all rooms feature ensuite bathrooms and even minibars for your own in-room mini-parties.

Despite being a budget hotel, Ambiance Pattaya offers a range of facilities, which surprisingly includes limo service to and from Bangkok. What’s more, you can even book in-room massages for washing off all stresses. The on-site bar and restaurant stay open until as late as 2 a.m. The best part? The restaurant serves a superb European breakfast which is the perfect antidote for the previous night’s hangover.

You cannot find a better place to ‘mingle’ than at the Page 10 Hotel, an upscale gay hotel in central Pattaya that’s also famously guest-friendly. Moreover, all rooms come with upscale hotel perks like slippers, bathrobes, and even bathtubs primed for romance. If you can splash, we’d definitely suggest the Jacuzzi suite which has a private hot tub perfect for you and your guest.

For an inexpensive Pattaya Hotel, Page 10 has some really cool amenities that everyone will appreciate. The standout is the uber chic and cool rooftop swimming pool area, complete with its own pool bar. So, you can order cocktails and sip on them while taking in the views of Pattaya and the Gulf of Thailand. Finally, the hotel’s restaurant and bar serve delicious meals and drinks throughout the day.

Poseidon Boutique Hotel

A 10-minute leisurely stroll from Jomtien beach brings you to the Poseidon Boutique Hotel, an amazing gay hotel in Pattaya. In fact, even Jomtien’s gay nightlife is literally right outside the front door, including the Cocka2 Bar. The rooms are all beautifully furnished with bespoke toiletries in plush bathrooms and all modern creature comforts. The suites are especially luxurious and offer great value-for-money at the same time. The VIP Studio is our pick, which comes with a whirlpool bathtub perfect for enjoying a romantic soak with your partner.

The restaurant at the Poseidon Hotel is particularly excellent, complete with a hearty a la carte breakfast spread. Enjoy a sundowner or a nightcap in the exceptional bar which is also a wine cellar. It boasts a vast selection of international wines which is quite a rarity in Thailand. Even though there’s no outdoor pool, the intimate indoor pool is a perfectly relaxing and pleasant space. Moreover, it even has a poolside bar from where you can order a litany of exotic cocktails.

The best of the lot is the Ganymede and the Poolside suites, the latter of which lies in breezy beach huts perfect for a Thailand stay.

Despite offering value-for-money prices, Zing Resort features a gamut of facilities, starting from the sprawling central swimming pool. Sun loungers underneath umbrellas by the poolside are the perfect space to relax. There’s even a jacuzzi in a lovely semi-enclosed courtyard area to enjoy a soak after a swim or a dip. Besides these, there’s also a gym, a steam room, and a sauna, all of which are quite popular gay hotspots.

Hotel Pullman G

The contemporary Hotel Pullman G is one of the best gay friendly hotels in Pattaya. It sits on a private beach and enjoys direct beach access. It blends traditional and modern elements and has everything you’d want for a relaxing beachside Thai holiday. The rooms are divided into minimalist and modern, and traditional Thai colonial design ones. Nevertheless, both come with private balconies and a wonderful bevy of amenities. If you’re on a romantic vacation, then we’d suggest the modern loft suite. It has views of the ocean and a huge jacuzzi bath right in the middle of the room. Romantic indeed!

Just like the rooms, the amenities, and facilities at this hotel radiate class and elegance. The gym is small but very pleasant and even offers Muay Thai and yoga classes. Unwind with a traditional Thai massage at the spa, complete with nature-based ingredients. The star of the show is the large pool deck, with lots of seating space and sun loungers to sprawl out on. Finally, the phenomenal Beach Club Bar and Restaurant satiate all hunger and drink cravings.

Holiday Inn Hotel Pattaya

The Holiday Inn is one of the most luxurious gay hotels in Pattaya. Located right in the heart of town, it’s a five-minute walk from the legendary Alcazar Cabaret Show, one of the Top 10 Things To Do In Pattaya. Moreover, it features sea views from each one of its 500+ rooms and suites, and the added comfort of private balconies. The rooms are all done up in warm woods and shades of white and blue to reflect a beachy vibe. A slew of modern amenities and plush bathrooms aside, it’s the floor-to-ceiling windows and the balconies that make staying here so special.

It’s clear that the Holiday Inn is overall a special place to stay, given its excellent slew of amenities. To begin with, it has not one but four swimming pools! The best of them all is the adults-only infinity pool overlooking the ocean, complete with the most comfortable looking daybeds ever. With the presence of the poolside bar, it’s easy to spend the whole day here. The decadent Tea Tree Spa is the ideal place to unwind with your partner with a romantic couple’s massage. A fitness center and four restaurants complete the offerings.

Pattaya Ladyboy Scene

The ladyboy scene in Pattaya has boomed over the last 10 years.  What was once only a handful of ladyboy bars in Pattaya has grown to dozens of dedicated ladyboy establishments.  There are ladyboy bars from Walking Street to Soi 6.  And if you look closely you can often spot one or two ladyboys working in a girlie bar.

If you want to meet ladyboys in Pattaya there is certainly no shortage of places to visit for a beer and a talk.  There are a few ladyboy gogo bars in Pattaya, one on Walking Street and another off Soi Buakhao. While there are a few ladyboy bars that are very much in the public view, like those on Soi Buakhao, most ladyboy bar owners realize the need for privacy and discretion and have closed door venues away from any onlookers.

While ladyboys often get a bad rap in the press, most are friendly, fun loving, and welcoming if you visit their bars.  There are likely to be more bars opening in the future as acceptance of the transgender community continues to grow.

Gay Nightlife In Pattaya

Thailand in general and Pattaya, in particular, is very open and accepting of the gay community and has a thriving nightlife scene around it.  Gay nightlife is out in the open in Pattaya accepted by most of the visitors even if they don’t approve.

There are several main areas catering to the gay community.  Sunee Plaza and Soi Day night are two large bar areas.  There is a similar setup as you find in the straight scene with beer bars and gogo bars, as well as some dedicated gay dance clubs.  Another large collection of gay bars and gogos can be found on Pattayaland Soi 3.

The LGBTQ+ rights movement has made tremendous strides over the past few decades and much of the progress in visibility is thanks in part to gay pride parades and marches that have taken place in cities around the world.

The global landscape for LGBTQ+ rights, protections and acceptance varies tremendously by location, with some destinations attracting millions of visitors to their events like Madrid Gay Pride, Sao Paulo Gay Pride or San Francisco Gay Pride, while more than 70 other countries have laws that allow discrimination or persecution of LGBTQ+ people.

Meet Pattaya; the perfect gay beachfront getaway less than 2 hours from Bangkok

This seaside resort is very famous for its go-go and beer bars but also for the strong sex industry. Therefore, Pattaya is one of the few places on earth where the gay nightlife is as crazy and wild as the straight one. The Thai culture is completely accepting of the LGBT community so feel free to express yourself however you want. Just don’t do anything illegal.

This exotic place has a wide plethora of activities for all kind of crowds, from amazing water parks and skydiving – to cabarets and gay saunas. In central Pattaya the  and Sunee Plaza areas are considered as the top gay hotspots where go-go lounges and cabarets offer an unforgettable experience to the travellers. In the district you will also be taken over by the great rock music while enjoying the street food delicacies.

The hustle gay nightlife is never ending in Pattaya and the list of gay venues is too long to mention, but the top cabarets can be counted on one hand only. Alcazar Cabaret and  are the best entertainment venues you can get there, and even if it’s not to your liking, just give it a try because it is not something you see everyday.

Upon coming to Pattaya, free yourself from all your worries and just let your crazy side immerse in the thrill of this exciting destination.

What is Gay Pride?

Gay pride events, including gay pride parades and festivals were started in major urban centers to improve the visibility, acceptance and legal protections for LGBTQ+ people living in those communities. While the aim of pride day started with a political nature, many cities around the world have such wide acceptance and legal protections that many events have become a celebration of pride for the local LGBTQ+ community. Depending on the country or city where the event is being held, the marches and parades often campaign for recognition and acceptance of same-sex marriage, legal protections for couples and families, anti-discrimination laws or trans rights. Although there are still obstacles in achieving full acceptance and protections for the LGBTQ+ community, the progress made just over the past few decades has been significant. Over the past 50 years, pride events, marches and demonstrations have evolved considerably. In western nations where LGBTQ+ people are protected and acceptance is high, many pride events have grown in scale, welcoming millions of visitors to their celebrations. Major cities like New York, São Paulo and Madrid host some of the largest events in the world with crowds of up to 5 million people.

A Brief History of Gay Pride

In June of 1969, a group of LGBTQ+ people in New York City rioted following a police raid of the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar located on Christopher Street in Greenwich Village. This series of events was a turning point for the LGBTQ+ community and marks one of the most significant events leading to the modern gay rights movement. The following year in June, organized demonstrations took place in New York City, Los Angeles and San Francisco to mark the one-year anniversary of the Stonewall Riots. As the years went on, additional cities in North America and Europe began to hold their own public demonstrations or pride day, eventually leading to what we know today as a gay pride parade, march, celebration or festival.

When is Gay Pride?

In honor of the Stonewall riots and the demonstrations that took place the following year in major cities in the US, most cities around the world now hold their pride celebrations in the summer of the northern hemisphere and in particular in June. In many countries, June is officially recognized as pride month even though some cities may hold their pride events on alternate dates.

Global and Regional Pride Organizations

Several non-profit organizations have also formed within the past couple of decades in an effort to support prides regionally and around the world. InterPride is one such group and its members include dedicated volunteers who organize and work to put on pride events all over the world. They are also the creator and licensor of WorldPride, an event that promotes LGBTQ+ pride issues on an international level through parades, festivals and other cultural activities. The inaugural WorldPride was held in Rome in 2000. The host cities are selected by the members of InterPride at its annual general meeting. Previous WorldPride host cities also include Jerusalem, London, Toronto, Madrid and New York City. Copenhagen is now set to host the next edition of WorldPride in 2021.

Similar organizations also exist at a regional level such as EuroPride and Pride of the Americas. EuroPride operates similarly to InterPride and they also license an event by the same name (EuroPride) in a different European city each year. Pride of the Americas was created with a similar mission to connect pride events in both North and South America. The inaugural Pride of the Americas is set to take place in Fort Lauderdale.

Why Visit a Destination During a Local Gay Pride Event?

Visiting a destination during a pride event is a great way to not only see the city, its landmarks and learn its history, but also to immerse yourself in the local LGBTQ+ community. Most gay pride parades and events also occur during a peak season of the year when the weather most ideal, yet another reason to book your trip during the event. Whether traveling alone, with friends or family, visiting during a gay pride event can be a fun way to experience a new destination and IGLTA can help you find LGBTQ-friendly business in almost any location to help make you trip memorable, safe and exciting.
