The biggest question is how you like to have your advice delivered to you: Sometimes, you want to hear no-nonsense, research- and fact-based truths from a therapist or other expert. Other times, nonsense is exactly what you need, and you’d rather hear straight talk from a comedian or celebrity as if you were talking to a girlfriend. And sometimes, you just want to hear stories of other relationships that went through highs and lows, and came out stronger. No matter what flavor of love you’re looking for, these relationship podcasts are sure to do the trick.

You think your relationship has had ups and downs? Host Jo Piazza interviews couples who went through real extraordinary circumstances and made it out the other end: One involves a man so sick he’d been read his last rights five times, another follows a couple who decided to quit their corporate jobs to live in an RV and drive cross-country together.

10 Dating Tips For Gay Men (That, Really, EVERYONE Should Follow)

For the most part, gay men are like everyone else on the dating scene. They’re looking for affectionlove. Like their straight counterparts, gay men also desire connection, companionship and commitment.

Unfortunately, the gay dating pool is viciously competitive. So, instead of fighting over the newest man meat on Grindr, I recommend these practical tips for gay men:

1. Get in the game. Sitting on the sidelines will get you nowhere. Either play the gay dating game or get out of the other gay guys‘ way! This doesn’t mean you have to play every day. The goal is for the single gay community to know you’re in circulation.

2. Try something new. Try a sparkling, new approach to gay dating. That is, if you’ve been doing the same thing and expecting a different result, then change detergents, add some fabric softener and try a new way of putting yourself out there. Going to the same coffee shop, grocery store and gym leads to the same scenery and the same results. Yawn! So instead, change it up!

3. Step out of the box. You love to run, hike and go to the theater. Great. Now what activity would be so out of the box for you, it might put you in a space to meet new guys, make friends with people who have gay friends or try a new hobby? Think of it this way: If you can step out of the closet, you can certainly step out of your rut!

4. Reflect what you desire. If you really want a guy who appreciates monogamy, then hanging out with people who have open relationships probably isn’t the best place to meet Mr. Right. From sex to finances and family to intellectual awareness, letting your true desires show up doesn’t make you weak, weird or wacky. It’s you being truly you, so let your authentic self shine.

5. Stop making excuses. The more you make excuses for why your gay dating life is the toilet, the less chance of it shifting in a positive way. If every date you go on with a gay guy leads you to say, „He was nice, but … “ stop and ask yourself „Why are you always justifying your way out of dating?“

6. What’s sex got to do with it? Well, it depends on your position — no pun intended. Dating from the perspective of „it’s all about sex“ can pay off if that’s how you truly feel. Conversely, making sex the secondary acquisition can also be a home run. Regardless of your perspective, being honest with yourself all along is my point. When you hide from your truth, it won’t set you free. Plus, being honest with yourself is a great launching pad for honesty in your relationship.

7. Ask yourself, „So what?“ Constantly in a tailspin with the same old audio tapes playing in your head? Do you always say: „Gay dating is such a chore,“ or, „Gay men just want sex,“ or „Every gay guy I meet only wants to talk about themselves?“ If so, start asking yourself, „So what?“

For example, „Gay dating is such a chore.“ So What? „When it becomes work, it’s not fun.“ So What? „If it’s not fun, then I might as well just stay home.“ So what? „If I stay home then I get depressed and lonely!“

Bingo! Gay dating is a chore that eventually leads to feeling depressed and lonely … or at least that’s what the replay of the tape your listening to is saying. So change the tape!

8. Be a fearless, foolish and fun-loving. Crazy as it sounds, one of these three „f-words“ could lead you to Mr. Right. First, be fearless in your gay dating pursuits. After all, if he thinks you’re afraid, you probably are, and your sweaty armpit stains will rat you out! If you can’t win them by being fearless, then be a little foolish, and let your heart lead you. Even if you feel like a fool, you’ll rack up the frequent heartbreak points that will eventually pay for an all-expenses-paid trip to true love. Finally, let the fun-loving gay dater in you out to play. What’s the worst that can happen?

12 LGBTQ Podcasts You Should Be Listening To

I used to listen to podcasts from the floor of my college dorm, just sitting and staring at my computer as a podcast — usually The Moth — played. Some faceless person, often states and countries away, was sharing their innermost secrets and it was utterly captivating.

This was sometime around 2009. Having a smartphone, which I did not, was new and interesting, and by no means a necessity of daily life. A computer was the way to listen. This was also before queer and trans creators had so fully entered the podcast space as they have today. You used to have to rewind episodes when you heard someone mention their partner. Were they referring to a business partner or a lover? Was that a sibilant „s“? Did someone say Cherry Grove?

Queer and trans people were featured, but podcasts seemed most comfortable presenting our stories solely in relation to coming out, transitioning, or AIDS.

Now, we have officially entered The Golden Age of podcasts, many of which are explicitly, overtly, outrageously queer. These 12 are the best of the best and the queerest of the queer.

What are some good dating/relationship podcast?

I don’t know what it is but I love hearing about other people’s experiences. I have been reading dating books but now I want to hear a human. What is some good podcast that discusses dating and relationships? Doesn’t necessarily have to be podcast by the way. Could also be vlogs.

Please keep the rulesr/dating_advice in mind while participating here. Try your best to be kind.

Fucking hilarious. I went to a live taping. It was so fun!

I haven’t really done a lot of research, but from what I’ve generally found, I honestly think a lot of the relationship/dating content out there is geared towards woman.

Matthew Hussey has sound dating advice. Geared towards woman, but you can extract some stuff from it. His videos can be funny too.

The Art of Charm – They’re still pretty new to me. Two guys talking about self-improvement. They have a few episodes on relationships.

The School of Greatness – Lewis Howes has a few guests on his show that cover relationships. You’re gonna have to do some digging. I like the one he had with Stephan Labossiere. The one with Esther Perel is great too.

I love Jay Shetty. He just started his podcast not too long ago. He’s not solely focused on relationships, but the ones that are, are good.

Is there any YouTube channels geared towards men that aren’t about sex? I’d be interested in looking at them

Why Oh Why and Why Won’t You Date Me, both hosted by women.

I can’t recommend one about relationships or dating (never found/looked one) but Call Her Daddy is a very explicit one (I cannot stress explicit enough; you should probably be 18 for it).

I personally stopped listening to it on episode 6 because I lost a significant amount of respect I had for them when they were talking about whether a girl should tell on a guy who was cheating on a gf. It’s good if you want to learn about sex culture though (both hook-up and relationship sex)

The Dating Project (Spotify) is my fave. Jessi talks about her personal project where she challanged herself to go on one date a month for a whole year. She tries to find one lesson she learned about herself for each date. And Cameron gives his personal growth insights and advice for guys. It’s the best of both worlds.

They have 20 some episodes and usually post one every week, but they for some reason haven’t made one in almost a month 🙁

Another notable mention is Kinda Dating by Natasha Chandel. She has a ton of good episodes and is always making more.

Impact theory does a relationship theory segment that’s pretty good!

I absolutely adore a podcast called My Worst Date. Dating/Tinder horror stories and every show ends with a true life crime story in a segment called “Crazy In Love.” New episodes every Wednesday!

Not an advice podcast, but if you’re feeling down on the whole dating scene, this will definitely make you laugh and realize that your situation may not be so bad!

Any podcast with John Wineland. Taught me SO MUCH. Spiritual but bitty gritty. He recommends books by David Deida, I recommend them as well.

Slightly off from what you expect but Joe Rogan often talks about his relationship with his wife on his podcast as well as other previous relationships. He’s a genuine good dude, has kids, been married for long time, also had a number of different relationships in the past, and has learned from previous mistakes. He’s also seen other men’s (and women’s) mistakes and talks about them as well. Helped me set a path for what I want from a person and the kind of relationship i want.

The Mating Grounds 100% best and funniest podcast (more geared towards men)

I really enjoy „Anna Faris is Unqualified“ because it’s a mixture with a new guest on every week but they discuss life issues and other topics and also take callers and talk about relationship issues.

I put together a list of the best podcast episodes to improve your romantic relationship here:

Currently, my favorites are:16 „How to keep love alive“ 17 „Contempt – conversation with John Gottman“ 18 Oprah’s „Best relationship advice“ s-SuperSoul-ConversationsI’ve left detailed notes on the three episodes above as well. Let me know what you think!

„Modern Love“ started out as a column in the New York Times, then became a podcast, and is now even a show of Amazon. The reason for its success is simple: the stories. Truly, every facet of life is covered in this podcast and even if you may not be able to relate to every story, you will learn from them.

In „Committed,“ Jo Piazza tells incredible stories of different couples, and how they made their relationship work despite various difficult circumstances. This podcast will make you realize that you’re lucky that the only issue in your relationship is the long distance.

The 15 Top Relationship Podcasts You Need to Hear

Sometimes you need someone to say the right thing. The right thing could completely change your day, week, or even your entire outlook when it comes to dating.

Unfortunately, most of us aren’t friends with comedians, psychologists or journalists – so we turn to relationship podcasts for some much-needed wisdom in our lives.

Podcasts are fantastic, they offer guidance, comedy, and company in the brief moments we have (walking to work, on the train) and help us better navigate life. We’ve handpicked the best relationship podcasts for every stage of dating, from the best bits to the tricky bits, to help you get the most out of your dating life.

17 Practical Gay Dating Tips for the New Age

One: Turn off your Grindr profile before the date begins, even if that’s where you found him. That little „pop“ sound while you give him flowers is a romantic buzz kill.

Two: You’re „Checking In“ at the restaurant where you’ve made dinner reservations? Seriously? Nothing like telling 5,000 Facebook friends the location of your intimate rendezvous.

Three: Do not „friend“ your date on Facebook before or after the initial meeting. If you’re not a good match (and dates are like new restaurants; about one in eight survive), you’re both going to share that awkward moment of „Do I un-friend him or keep reading about his ‚Why do I always meet losers?'“ updates.

Four: Even though gay men love to label everyone, they despise being labeled. So whether he’s a Bear, Twink, Twunk, Cub, Daddy, Dilf, Otter, Chub, Gym Rat, Gym Bunny, or any of the other zillion names we give one another, only address him in generic terms, like handsome, sexy, hung. If he’s 22 years old and wears glasses and weighs 108 pounds and says „for some reason people tend to think I’m a Twink,“ feign surprise and say „men are so into labels.“ Then help him lift his martini glass to his lips and move on.

Five: If you’re over thirty and at least four years older than your date, don’t be surprised if he calls you Daddy. Take it as a compliment; do not take it as a reason to pick up the check.

Six: Unless he can juggle or tap dance in bed, „versatile bottom“ means only one thing, so be prepared to take charge if things go well. If you’re lying when you call yourself a „versatile top,“ either call it quits now or start working on your oral communication skills.

Seven: If he insists on taking „important calls“ several times during your date, don’t automatically think he’s blowing you off. In today’s complicated world, he might be calling work, his sitter, or his ex-wife to see if she can pick up the kids. Chill out, and use the time to call your sponsor for encouragement.

Eight: In the old days, it was common, and common sense, to say that, if you sleep with someone, you are also sleeping with everyone he’s slept with. Nowadays, it’s common sense to remember that, if you sleep with someone who’s in a 12-Step program, you are also sleeping with everyone in his Home Group. Be prepared to be judged by all the members of the orgy.

Nine: If you’ve met the guy online and have never met in person, and if his entire chat so far has been about how amazingly hot you are and how amazingly much he’s into you and how he’s quite certain you’re the guy for him, he will hate you within 20 minutes of your date and you will never hear from him again. If you request an explanation, he will call you a stalker and block you from any social media sites you might share.

Ten: While it’s nice to have a grasp of current events and knowledge of local culture, it’s no longer a first-date pre-requisite. However, if you don’t have an immediate answer for „Do you want to get married?“ and „How many kids would you like to have?“ the date has just ended; don’t even bother to take your coat off.

Eleven: Contrary to popular belief, opinions are not like assholes, because in today’s gay world, assholes are glorious and sexy and displayed prominently in photos sent to you from potential suitors. Opinions on a date are more like your lesbian best friend: We know she’s important to you and we’re glad you have her, but we have no idea why you’d want to introduce us to her on a first meeting and turn the evening into a serious downer.

Twelve: If you do opt to discuss current events, avoid anything so controversial it will destroy potential chemistry, like Crimea, Obama’s job performance, or the relevance of HBO’s „Looking.“

Thirteen: Fashions change, so know the basics: No flip-flops, no shaving, and, even if it is after Memorial Day, absolutely no white underwear.

Fourteen: If you like the guy and want things to go well, put everything out on the table: HIV status, views on monogamy, and, for Florida residents, guns.

Fifteen: It’s a sign of a true gentleman if you walk him to his door and he says it’s too soon for you to come inside. It’s also more than likely a sign that he still lives with his on-again off-again ex.

Sixteen: If, in the heat of the moment, you do find yourself in bed together after the date, remember to keep the foreplay going for at least 30 minutes. This allows ample time for intimate kisses, exploring each other’s body, and for the Cialis to kick in.

Seventeen: Sadly, gay men are self-centered and narcissistic, so instead of talking about your abusive childhood upbringing and triumph over Legionnaires disease, read this piece over and over and out loud until I’m so happy I wet myself. We’re a match!

Why Won’t You Date Me?

Hosted by comedian, actress and writer Nicole Byer, Why Won’t You Date Me? offers comedic relief for those feeling lonely. Byer invites her exes and past flings to the show, asking them about why the relationship ended. She also invites on guests to talk about their dating life and, without hesitation, asks them whether or not they’d date her. The result is a fresh and hilarious approach to singledom that will have you laughing till the very end.

Making Gay History

Making Gay History sheds light on the most influential gay activists of the current era. Each episode documents the seldom recognized life efforts of courageous and devoted LGBTQ civil rights leaders. While not directly about relationships, this podcast offers endless inspiration.

U Up?

Betches Media presents the U Up? podcast, hosted by Betches founder Jordana Abraham and comedian Jared Freid. This podcast does a great job of investigating male and female perspectives on modern dating. It sheds light on what it means to use today’s dating apps, how hookups make us feel, and why relationships come to an end.

With the social and legal consequences that still come with being out today, with so few public examples of us, only a fraction of our stories are being told. And yet, some of the most important people in LGBTQ+ history are alive today. All of this lead me to create this podcast in 2016.

Our stories are the most powerful tools that we have. LGBTQ&A features weekly interviews with the most interesting and influential members of the LGBTQ+ community. Past guests include Pete Buttigieg, Roxane Gay, Kate Bornstein, Laverne Cox, and Trixie Mattel.

Start here: Roxane Gays talks about soulmates, how she’s just entering into her sexual prime at 44, and why the stories of trauma her readers share keep her up at night.

3 Making Gay History

Eric Marcus‘ interviews provide a roadmap to our community’s long history of resistance. Initially recorded for his 1992 book of the same name, Making Gay History documents the oral history of those on the frontlines of the LGBTQ movement from 1945-1990, including Randy Shilts, Evelyn Hooker, Vito Russo, Larry Kramer, and Ann Northrop.

Making Gay History comes back for its fifth season on June 6th with all new episodes focused around Stonewall.

Start here: Talking about growing up as an effeminate child, leaving home at 10, and of course, Stonewall, this is a side of Sylvia Rivera you won’t hear anywhere else.

4. One From The Vaults

With the trans history podcast, One From The Vaults, Morgan M. Page has created a vital resource for the LGBTQ community. Page’s exquisitely researched interviews show how the history of trans people is threaded throughout the history of the world.

A trans history podcast might sound dull, maybe a little stuffy, but these histories are anything but boring. Take Reed Erickson, an eccentric millionaire who is considered the architect of modern trans healthcare. He also funded research into communication between humans and dolphins, and had a pet leopard named Henry that he would take everywhere, including planes for business trips.

Start here: Click here to listen to the episode about Reed Erickson, „The Trans Howard Huges“. And click here to listen to the episode about Stormé DeLarverie, a butch, drag king, gender outlaw, who was at Stonewall during the rebellion, and later served as a bouncer at the famed New York City bar, The Cubby Hole.

7. To L And Back: An L Word Podcast

Screw the 50th anniversary of Stonewall: The L Word sequel is coming out this year and you need to be prepared.

Kristin Russo (author of This Is A Book For Parents of Gay Kids and host of the wildly popular podcast, Buffering The Vampire Slayer) and Riese Bernard (CEO and EIC of the essential online home for queer women, Autostraddle) are the perfect pair to take you through every episode of the iconic lesbian series. Bernard is a bonified L Word expert and Russo has only seen the series once, which as Bernard puts it, „in lesbian years, that’s like basically never having seen it at all“.

11. Disability After Dark

The creator of the viral hashtag, #DisabledPeopleAreHot, Andrew Gurza is here to remind the world that people with disabilities exist, despite what pop culture would lead you to believe, and they can have just as messy of sex lives as everyone else. Once you tune in, you’ll start to pick up on all of the ableism that exists in our daily lives, and how the majority of queer spaces are inaccessible to those with disabilities.

Start here: Listen to Gimp On Grindr II as Gurza uses his trademark charm to walk us through all of the horrible things people have said to him on dating apps.

12. Nancy

Nancy is an exploration of what it means to be LGBTQ in a radically changing world. Part of the joy of the podcast is following along as the hosts, Tobin Low and Kathy Tu, grow more comfortable with their queerness.

The two don’t shy away from subjects that others might consider taboo: a recent episode featured Kristin Russo (from the podcast, To L And Back) opening up about her miscarriage, a subject rarely talked about in the queer community.

Start here: While Nancy is no longer putting out new episodes, the stories they old are timeless. Click here to listen to the episode with Kristin Russo and click here to listen to an episode with Matthew Shepard’s mother, Judy. They discuss how her life has been transformed in the 20 years since Matthew’s death and Judy explains how much further we still have to go in protecting LGBTQ people.

Learn About Love and Relationships by Listening to These Podcasts

Dating is difficult these days, and technology isn’t making it any easier. Thanks to countless apps and social media platforms, as well as a growing texting dependency, there are more ways than ever to land — and swiftly lose — someone. But just as technology can be your biggest foe, it can also be your best friend … at least when it comes to podcasts.

All it takes is a quick pause of your favorite murder-filled crime story to know there are also plenty of podcasts that can with your love life, too. Some of them may divulge invaluable insight into today’s dating landscape, while others may offer up tips and advice as to what you’re doing right and wrong.

A common thread? A reminder that you’re not alone in your dating struggles.

Whether you’re single and casually swiping, looking for “The One” or already locked down in a long-term relationship, consider listening to one of these podcasts to sharpen your dating skills in 2020 (and beyond).

For when you’re single

Savage Lovecast Dan Savage has been producing this podcast for an eye-watering six years. That’s a lot of relationship advice. However, Savage Lovecast doesn’t deal in the everyday relationship issues; expect to hear about rare fantasies, complex polyamorous relationships, and, well, just about everything else. Definitely NSFW (Not Safe For Work), Dan mixes in humour and straightforward advice, making every problem sound completely ordinary and solvable. One listen and you’ll be hooked.

Death, Sex & Money If you worry you may tire of listening to a relationship podcast alone, then Death, Sex & Money is for you. Anna Sale describes this interview-style podcast as the place to discuss the big questions that surround us, that all-too-often “…get left out of polite conversation”. So while relationships are on the agenda, this podcast talks about them in context of life’s other big worries i.e. death and money. Very Americanised but don’t worry if you don’t know who the interviewee is. Some episodes will be with big name celebs (Brooke Shields, Jane Fonda etc.) and sometimes it’ll be with experts and guests plucked from total obscurity.

A podcast for those definitely in the dating game. If you’re feeling a tad tired from dating and want to a reminder why you’re even doing it in the first place, this is for you. Brooklyn-based comedians Laura Lane and Angela Spera offer practical dating advice, red flags to look out for and real stories all wrapped in a sassy, snarky bundle. A great reminder that everyone struggles with their love life sometimes.

For when you’re newly dating

Anna Faris is Unqualified Anna Faris is known for being a comedic actress who was up-until-last-year married to megastar Chris Pratt. So what makes Anna Faris qualified to dole out relationship advice to listeners who phone in with their problems? Nothing is what. Faris is very upfront with her lack of credentials but what she lacks, she makes up with in enthusiasm and surprisingly honest opinions. Like a friend whose advice you don’t want to listen to, but you probably should because they are right.

Dear Sugars A cult favourite and recent addition to The New York Times podcast roster, Dear Sugars is hosted by acclaimed authors Cheryl Strayed and Steve Almond. The podcast essentially follows an anonymous agony aunt format, with hosts answering questions with “radical empathy”. Insightful, compassionate, and achingly understandable it’s a great listen to gain closure over previous relationship mishaps or negative singledom thinking.

The Heart Proud to stand apart from a ‘typical’ podcast, The Heart is more of a performance piece than a relationship podcast. Each episode is designed and written with soundscapes and imaginative storytelling to make listeners feel as if they have walked into another world. Hosted by award-winning documentarian Kaitlin Prest, it’ll take you on an exploration of what relationships and intimacy mean in the modern world.

For Breakups

The Bounce Back Podcast There is no cure-all for a break-up but most people will tell you talking about it and hearing other tales of woe is an easy way to make yourself feel less alone. The Bounce Back Podcast (previously called Let’s Talk Heartbreak) is hosted by dating coach Laura Yates and offers a sympathetic ear to all the crazy, motivating and brilliant ways people have gotten over lost love.

Mental Illness Happy Hour Don’t worry about the name, mental illness is unduly stigmatised and this podcast sets to break that stigma in sometimes shocking ways. After a breakup, you need to hear how others pulled themselves up by their bootstraps – people who were in dire situations who came out the other side even better. This podcast discusses everything from heartbreak, trauma, and addiction then asks its audience how negative thinking makes a bad situation worse. A safe space for all.

Where Should We Begin? Prepare to have some breakthroughs about your past relationships listening to Where Should We Begin with relationship therapist Esther Perel. This groundbreaking podcast is a one-off couples therapy session which tackles issues from infidelity, commitment, and sexuality all in a neat one-hour podcast. Couples therapy is something not everyone has the luxury to afford, but this podcast is a great insight into how a typical session is run and whether you could get use out of it in the future.

3. Why Won’t You Date Me with Nicole Byer

Nicole Byer is smart, funny, and…chronically single. In an effort to get to the bottom of her lack of love, Nicole invites fellow comedians, friends, and former flings (think: Whitney Cummings, Erika Lust, Alice Wetterlund) on the show to weigh-in on their dating lives and try to make sense of her own. You will laugh (Nicole is hilarious), but also may find yourself awake at 2 a.m. reassessing your entire dating app experience.

6. The Viall Files

If being on The BachelorBachelor in Paradise is enough dating experience to warrant starting your own podcast, then Bachelor Nation’s Nick Viall has certainly earned his place. Listeners can call in for “Questions With Nick” on Mondays or tune in on Wednesdays for interviews with some seriously thought-provoking guests. I highly recommend it for fans of The Bachelor, as season favorites often stop by to give some BTS gossip from the show. (Like, remember when Nick totally shaded Madison?)

Eric Schroth trifft…

OH … MY … GODNESS!

Folge 6: .. vom „ladylike“-Podcast

Als „Booting out der Woche“ am Telefon: The one and only Alexander! Wer sonst? Hier zu hören bei AUDIO NOW.

Folge 3: .. Tietjen
